Why Inconel 706 / UNS N09706 for Indian turbine and power projects

706 is a /-precipitation-hardening Ni-Fe-Cr superalloy with high strength and creep resistance to ~705 C and 718-equivalent performance, but it forges and machines more easily ideal for very large discs and rotors with excellent resistance to post-weld strain-age cracking. For India's gas-turbine, power and aerospace sectors, N09706 suits turbine and generator discs, wheels, rotor shafts and rings.

Chemistry (UNS N09706, wt%): Ni 39.044.0, Cr 14.517.5, Fe balance, Nb+Ta 2.503.30, Ti 1.502.00, Al 0.40, C 0.06. Forge ~9831,149 C; anneal ~9271,010 C + two/three-step age; to ~705 C. Same alloy across Inconel 706 / N09706 / 2.4615.
