Why 16Mo3 / 1.5415 for Indian boiler, pressure-vessel and oil & gas projects

16Mo3 is a molybdenum creep-resistant pressure-vessel steel with reliable strength and excellent weldability to ~480 C. For India's power-boiler, refinery, fertiliser and oil & gas pressure-equipment sectors, 1.5415 suits boiler drums and headers, vessel shells and dished ends, heat-exchanger tube sheets, and forged valve and wellhead parts.

Documented capability

Power/boilers: drums, superheater headers, steam-line parts, dished ends, shells, tube sheets.

Pressure vessels/heat exchangers: shells, tube sheets, baffle plates, nozzles, channel flanges, forged fittings.

Oil & gas: valve bodies, bonnets, seat rings, closures, adapter flanges, casing heads, tubing spools, fluid-end blocks.

Round/square/flat/rectangular/step bars; step/gear/pump/valve-stem/turbine shafts; seamless rolled rings, guide/seal/labyrinth/gear rings, flange blanks; sleeves, bushes, housings, hollow bars; discs, dished ends, blocks, plates, tube sheets; forged pipes, tubes, nozzles, elbows; valve and pump forgings.

Material data

Chemistry (EN 10028-2, wt%): C 0.120.20, Si 0.35, Mn 0.400.90, Mo 0.250.35. Properties: tensile ~440590 MPa, yield 275 MPa; service to ~480 C. Normalised / normalised-and-tempered. Comparable ASTM A182 F1 / A204.

Standards & quality

Manufactured to EN 10028-2 / EN 10222-2 / EN 10273 (ASTM A182 F1 / A204 on request); EAF + LF + VD melting; 100% UT; EN 10204-3.1 / 3.2 MTRs. 16Mo3, 15Mo3 and W.Nr. 1.5415 are the same grade.
